John Lundie of that Ilk

John was the third son of John Lundie of that Ilk, and the grandson of William Lundie of that Ilk. His mother was Margaret Durie, second daughter of David Durie of Durie. He succeeded his younger brother William to Lundie in , who in turn had succeeded the eldest brother James. This succession was not easy, as their uncle, Sir James Lundie, had tried to defraud each of them in turn out of their right to the lands and position of head of house. John's brother William died in 1623, but it was not until 1634 that John was able to get his hands on Lundie.

John married Katherine Lindsay, one of two daughters of Alexander Lindsay, Bishop of Dunkeld, with the contract dated the 4th of October 1627.

He had one daughter, Margaret. Lundie should have passed to John's brother George Lundie in Satlgrien upon John's death, but due to an agreement between George Lundie, and his niece's future husband, Robert Maitland, Lundie passed to Margaret. John is therefore sometimes considered the last laird, as he is the last of the name Lundie to hold the barony.

John died in 1647, and was succeeded to Lundie by his daughter Margaret. She had married Robert Maitland, second son of the Earl of Lauderdale, and Robert adopted the name Lundie. Margaret was succeeded by her daughter Sophia Lundin, who was married to John Drummond (later Earl of Melfort), the second son of James Drummond 3rd Earl of Perth. Their children would again take the name Lundin, but three generations later, the surname of Lundin was dropped for Drummond and Lundin was sold. The male descendants of the marriage of Sophia Lundin and John Drummond had become the heirs to the Earldom of Perth, and the sale of Lundin was required to pay the legal fees in obtaining the title and estates.
