Robert Lundie 8th of Balgonie; and
Robert Lundie 9th and last of Balgonie
Robert, 8th of Balgonie, succeeded his father in 1603, being in minority at the time of his death. He was the penultimate Lundie of Balgonie, but in most aspects could be effectively considered the last. Although he had sons to succeed him, the amount of debt on the estate meant that as soon as his eldest son was served as heir and had been given sasine of the lands of Balgonie, he resigned them for payment of 10,000 merks and payment of the debts. Much of the details of his life are concerned with the financial probelms of the Barony.
He was twice married. His first wife was Jane Lindsay, daughter of James 7th Lord Lindsay of the Byres; to whom he was married between 1598 and 1600. By her he had Robert Lundie, 9th and last of Balgonie; and Euphame Lundie, spouse of John Moncrief of Balcaskie on the 5th of February, 1635.
His second wife was Euphame Durie, daughter of Robert Durie of that Ilk; in a contract dated the 6th of February 1606. By her he had several children including John Lundie of Easter Conland; David Lundie of Wester Conland; Margaret Lundie, spouse of George Lundie in Saltgrein (mother of John Lundie of Clatto); and Captain Laurence Lundie.
